I don't know how I get so lucky..but I know what I want and I get it.

So as you know I had been SEARCHING for tickets to either of the sold out Panic! at the Disco shows. It started out as mainly wanting to see The Hush Sound but then when I heard about this whole clown dancer thing I HAD to see Panic!
So where I intern there is also a online cd store opperating out of the same office and I was told that one of the guys is a master at getting tickets to sold out shows when ticketmaster releases them the day before. Well it turns out that since the Nokia Theatre isn't Clear Channel their policies are different. So no luck there. That was all I expected him to do, but no. He was determined and emailed about 12 people from different places like mtv and the Conan O'Brein Show etc. But when he left the office he wasn't having much luck. So at like 4:30 Brendan answers the phone and the person asks him how to spell my last name so he did. I asked him who it was and he said it was some reporter who barely spoke english and recieved one of my emails, I gave him a hard time in disbelief but he stuck with it so I gave up. Then at 5:30 (show starts at 7:30) Sal calls to tell me I'm on the house list and gave me all the info. So I head down to the Nokia Theatre in Time Square, give them my ID, expecting to be given a ticket. But no it gets better, the guy hands me a ticket with a VIP Mezzanine pass. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!?!! So I walk in and I am directed to the Mezzanine right, with tables reserved for Atlantic Records, Panic! at the Disco, and Fueled By Ramen. Forrrreaal!? Of course I don't recognize people for shit so I was like great there's gunna be someone really important and I'm gunna have no clue who it is. Not to mention a girl that goes to my college was there, weird.

The Hush Sound- played first..aFREAKINGmazing. I love them. they are all so adorable and all sooo fucking talented. They played all the songs I love which makes me happy.

The Dresden Dolls- sooooo WEIRD...but good in that weird way. IDK there was just something interesting about them. During the set about 1 song in I can feel that there are people standing like DIRECTLY behind me, like so close that I was afraid to turn around. So I did a side glance and out of the corner of my eye I see the singer and the bass player from The Hush Sound..love..and there was a girl I didn't recognize with them. The bassist was standing sooo close to me that if I turned around I probably would have like bumped into him. A few songs in the kids in front of me realised that they were behind me and started whispering. After the Dresden Dolls the Hush guys walked away and the kids in front of me followed and asked for pictures. I'm dumb and didn't cause I was too shy.

Panic! at the Disco (and Luscent Dossier)- Well well well. They were extremely good. The crowd was weird, all kids who heard them on the radio of course and looked out of place. THe Mezzanine suddenly got packed with FBR/Atlantic/Panic! people..some drunk some on their way to being drunk..and pushing people who they didn't know out of the way. About 2 songs in one of the guys left to go somewhere and I gladly stepped up to the railing next to a big scary dude that kinda gave me a look like "What the fuck are you doing herE?" haha but whatevs I figured if they wanted me to move they would tell me and I would. So some guy came and like put his chair right behind me and stood on it and then I was trapped and he stayed there forever even when it was over. But anyway the whole circus thing was actually pretty cool, different, entertaining, it was funny. I think people need to stop being so uptight and freaking out about this stuff. It was mad cool and you'd prolly think so if you took your hipster indie I;m better than everyone stick outta your ass. I mean seriously who has a cicuis caberrat act one stage with them? it was sweet and they all took a bow at the end instead of doing an encore. The band sounded great, the best out of the 3 times I've seen them. They have definately perfected their live performance. And the added members for the tour, a cello/drum machine player and a keyboardit/moogist/synth/sound effect whatever you wat to call him. And it just made the whole thing that much better. As corny as this is going to sound, it was magical. I mean I've always thought that some of their music sounds theatrical and this just made it that much better. Oh and they played all the songs on their album, some with a little remix twist, and they covered Smashing Punpkin's Tonight Tonight and Radiohead's Karma Police.

Overall I was completely impressed by all the bands/acts and the venue. The venue being new was extremely nice.

I just really hate that people are getting so uptight over music lately. It's annoying. It's annoying that bands I love become a joke to people because they have "sold out" by trying to make a living and by being picked up by MTV. Like seriously grow up, you wish you were there. It's about the music, if you love the music you love the music. And unless the band COMPLETELY changes there is no reason to stop liking the band if you truely like them for their music just because they are getting popular. Go ahead hate their new fans, that's finebut their is no reason to hate the music you love. If it makes you happy and it's fun there is nothing wrong with that either. Not all music has to be the most complicated and innovating music. Why can't you just like it and love it because its fun and not so serious. People just pisses me off, the scene just pissed me of.

And I for one can see no blood from the hearts and the wrists you allegedly slit
And I for one wont stand for this if this scene were a parish you'd all be condemned.

Someone might love me

Lets knock on wood, cross our fingers, spin a round, do a little dance, whatever is good luck. Because I think that I might have found an amazing person who is willing to sell me a ticket to Panic! tomorrow night for face value. God there are some nice people left in the world. Lets just hope it goes good.

On that note..

LOVE: The Hush Sound. Put them and The Morning Of together and its like lets all be happy music, and dance and dance and dance. Insanely talented and adorable, not just in looks but just in a whole, adorable. They make me smile. Real people getting the chance they deserve. Too great for anymore words.

HATE: NYC Smoke. Saw them play last night at the Knitting Factory after The Morning Of. Okay first things first, I already wasn't happy with the other bands because The Morning Of was supposed to headline but since the other bands were late they had to play first. So NYC Smoke comes on, pretty much older people trying to live out the dreams they had and couldnt fully live out when they were teens. They were a snooze and the strangest choice for a show with The Morning Of, a young hip happy band.

Panic! At The Hush Sound and The No Ticket Loser

SO I have officially failed miserably at getting a Panic! ticket...I really wanted to see The Hush Sound. Once again, damn the sceneyboppers. I don't even want to think of going down there to buy a ticket from a scalper they are prolly going for redic amounts. Plus them bitches are prolly already lining up for that shit 24 hours in advance. If only they knew that it really doens't matter if you are in first as long as you grow some balls and want it bad enough to push people out of your damn way. There really is no reason to get there early..it's easy to get to the front if you really want it. I eventually learned this and hopefully so will the future generations. Everyone just rushes the door anyway, then you get in late cause they wont open the doors til everyone takes 2 steps back. Just like once you get inside and everyone rushes the stage and your fav. band won't come out til everyone takes 2 steps back so the front can breath. Then there is always that one asshole who thinks he or she is tuff shit and is like OH YOU WANT ME TO 2STEP!?...no I don't want you to "2step" you jag. Hopefully one day that person will learn their lesson. Sometimes I wish I could really just enjoy music at shows instead of having to brance myself from falling or prepare to get kicked in the head by some jagbag girl or guy who is too heavy to be surfing especially when the tweenies can't hold up their own weight. Not to mention the fact that every kid these days just thinks they HAVE to mosh at every show, turns out they don't even know what moshing is and they end up looking like convulsing idiots.

After my much needed nap I'll update with a LOVE/HATE. And my experience from the show last night.

The Misery

Woke up to an email from my boss at Island/DefJam (who is out of the country with my other boss) telling me that he just got laid off along with 20 other people at Island/DefJam and that I don't need to come in for the rest of the summer. Great. Awesome. Cool. I'm Screwed.

AND I just found out/realised that Zac Hanson Got Married earlier this month. awesome

The Beginning Of The End.

So I'm living in New York City for the summer doing two internships in the Music Industry, one at Ariel Publicity and one at Island/DefJam for the A&R guy of Thursday. And I've realized that the industry loves their blogs. I have a livejournal but that's more personal for me so I decided to start a Blog here.

DISCLAIMER: This blog is solely for me to rant and rave about the happenings in the Music Industry and in my life in NYC. If you read this and you don't like my opinion, GET OVER IT. I don't really care what you think, this is what I think and if you don't like it I have an easy answer, DON"T READ IT.

I've been to a few shows since I've been here, unfortunately not enough.

1. I saw Teddy Geiger play at the South Street Seaport of Target Kids Day. I know I know you're prolly thinking what the fuck!? But I mean come on that kid has got more talent in his left pinky than a lot of the artists and bands coming out today (oh don't worry I'll get to that later). Plus gotta represent Rochester. The show was good performance wise. The crowd was lame though. Most people were just there cause they had been there all day and wanted to see the fireworks after (which were sweet) so they had no clue who the hell they were watching and so it was a weird vibe. But of course Teddy and the guys played an amazing show, as always. No encore though, LAME.

2. Ryan Montbleau at the Knitting Factory. Always a good time. Most insanely talented man with the more insanely talented band. I felt like the youngest one there, in fact I'm pretty sure that my friend Brian and I were the youngest ones there. Everyone else was at least 25. But hey it's cool, we know good music. Anyways I fall in love with Ryan every time I see him, insaneness. <3

3. The Lookaways at CBGB's. I finally got to go to CBGB's, it's about damn time I know. The Lookaways are a friend of a friend's band. Pretty cool, girl lead. Reminiscent of 80's girly punk pretty cool. I enjoyed it. However it was BALLS (=hot) and my lovely friends wore heals cause for some reason that was thought to be a smart idea for the night, wrong-o. And since I'm not 21 and I don't have a proper fake, I couldn't go hang out after, LAME.

I turn 20 in a week incase you cared.

So I think everytime I post I'm going to have one blurb about a band I really LOVE and one about a band I really HATE.

LOVE: The Morning Of. http://www.myspace.com/themorningofrock A band outta Newburgh, NY (Orange County). Pretty fucking sic. They rock hard and have the best stage presence ever. There is a guy lead singer but a girl who backs up and sings lead occationally. The band consists of keyboard, 2 guitars, bass, drums and a singer. The girl plays keyboard and sings. Their songs are catchy and dance-y and I can never get enough of them. I'm going to see them tomorrow night at 7pm at the Knitting Factory, and again on July 10th at CBGB's. STOKED.

HATE: Cute Is What We Aim For. Recently started this bad boy: http://groups.myspace.com/cuteiswhatweareagainst Most overrated band ever. The guys are two faced assholes who only suck up to people because they like the attention and the money. I liked Jeff and Shaant better when they were in Cherrybing, more fun and relaxed. The Buffalo scene gets pretty shady as with every music scene I'm sure. And I've realised that some people jsut want your money but want you to think it's your friendship they want. Ever since Cute came out in 2004 and played Bamboozle I have been bitter, I wouldn't watch them then I won't watch them now. I was forced to watch them open for The Rocket Summer in Dec. 2005 in Rochester and I really wished I had been late cause it was torture. This year at Bamboozle I walked past the stage they were on and it was OVER FLOWING with teens and preteens googling over the "hotties"(ew) and their whiny songs. REfuckingDICULOUS. I don't understand Fueled By Ramen, sooo many good bands...they really dissapointed me with this one. The only reason Cute is getting a lot of attention is cause FOB was on FBR and every FOB fan watches that shit like a hawk for the next band to come out. If only the little girls knew that Shaant really just wants your money. Jag Bags.
